The City of Chicago covers an area of over 230 square miles and sits approximately 578 feet above sea level on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. At nearly 120 miles wide and over 300 miles long, the lake is the fifth-largest body of fresh water in the world. The city is traversed by the Chicago and Calumet rivers.
